Insider Tip: If you are staying in San Jose and not planning to visit any of the beach destinations, this day trip to Manuel Antonio is a great escape for the day. The drive there and back is a bit long, but the drive is actually quite beautiful. They also stop for breakfast along the way there, and coffee and bathroom breaks on the way back. So you do get time to stretch your legs a bit too. Dolphins are really popular in this region, so keep your eyes peeled. And if you are lucky, you may even see a whale or 2 in migration season.
