Join us for a great afternoon of sea kayaking, snorkeling and exploring Captain Island Tamarindo. The calm waters of the bay are perfect for paddling our ocean kayaks built for one or two people. Singles, couples and even active families will love the Captain Island Kayak & Snorkeling Tamarindo tour.
We paddle out from tranquil southern shores of Tamarindo Beach where the water is typically flat and calm in the afternoons. With a duration of anywhere from 10 minutes to half hour, our expert kayak guides will lead you at a comfortable paddling pace to the shores of Captain Island.
Once on Isla Capitan, you will have time to explore the tide pools and turtle nesting ground of the seashell covered island. Look for hermit crabs scurrying by, sea urchins hiding in the cracks of the volcanic rock, and tiny minnows swimming in the tide pools.
After a break on the island, we will don our snorkeling equipment and head out into the shallow coral reef. Snorkeling Tamarindo Bay may not be one of the most popular things to do in Tamarindo, but our guides will do their best to help you spot many tropical fish, several star fish, and maybe even an octopus. We will spend about 45 minutes snorkeling Tamarindo’s coral reef before we paddle back to Tamarindo Beach.
This Kayaking & Snorkeling eco tour in Tamarindo is great for those who love nature and outdoor sports. Singles can choose to do a private tour and really immerse themselves in nature, and budget minded families will love the more economical group tour option. Departures: Daily depending tides.
Length: 2 Hours.
Children: Min age is 4 years old to fit the life jacket securely and is dependent on the parent’s ability to paddle the kayak safely without assistance.

Insider Tip: Captain Island is loaded with seashells, which is lovely, but also difficult to walk on. Bring sturdy sandals to protect your feet. Also, when kayaking back to Tamarindo beach, you may have to surf the kayak a bit. Don’t freak out (like I might have), the guides are amazing at guiding you in and the feeling of surfing the waves is an awesome rush. If you are scared, you can always leave the kayak with the guide and walk in on your own.
