The CATALINA ISLANDS are also very similar to the Bat Islands because like the Bat Islands there are no boat anchorages at some of the islets and one must descend immediately and away from the rocks which can be very exciting, it's like jumping right into the action!.
The Catalina Islands are considered among the most attractive dive sites in Costa Rica. It is an area where divers often find themselves surrounded by large schools of colorful fish. But by far what the Catalina's are most famous for is rays, rays and more rays!!! Giant Manta Rays with wingspans ranging from 14-20 ft.!!! Bat Rays, Mobley, Spotted, Bull's-eye and Stingrays they are all here and in numbers!!! So much so that occasionally, we will find ourselves lost in a huge cloud of migratory schools of various species of rays and at times, close enough to spot a Tiger shark or a white tip which are also not uncommon to see here. Keep in mind that a checkout dive is not mandatory or necessary for this trip but we do recommend it to get comfortable.
On this dive there will be several dive spots with depths ranging from 40 ft. to more than 100 ft. Visibility will depend upon the levels of plankton and nutrients. It will vary from 20 ft. to 100 ft., with an average of 45 ft. approximately.
